Contemporary Wall Fountains
A wall fountain by definition is pretty much self explanatory. It is a fountain that is suspended on a wall in your home or a place of business for the visual and audible pleasure of those around it. Most of today’s contemporary wall fountains are specifically designed as indoor wall fountains. However, there are some wall fountains that can be placed in an outdoor or indoor setting, while others are designed exclusively for outdoor use.
Wall Fountain Styles
With the staggering amount of wall fountain styles available in today’s market, you’re sure to find one to suit your taste and décor. Your choices include the modern sleek look of contemporary wall fountains, the classical appearance of some fountains like the lion wall fountain, or how about those designer wall fountains that gives you the option of hanging a sculpture or piece of art work on the wall that just happens to also be a wall water fountain.
When you decide on the style of wall fountain, you then have a choice in the material make up of the fountain. Wall fountains can be made in a variety of combinations of materials such as copper, stainless steel, glass, slate, fiberglass, resin, and cast stone.
Your personal taste will guide you in your decision.
 Wall Fountain Installation
 The three main factors involved in installing a wall fountain are;
  •    The type of wall the fountain will be mounted on
  •    The weight of the wall fountain
  •    The location of the electrical outlet
     The three main types of walls are;
  •    Gypsum (sheet rock)
  •    Wood paneling
  •    Masonry, such as brick or concrete blocks

  When mounting your wall fountain on a gypsum or wood panel wall surface, one of your main objectives  is to be able to locate wall studs behind the surface so that you can screw the mounting screws directly into them for stability. This is not always possible, so you’ll want to use wall anchors designed for hollow walls. Wall anchors are designed to be pushed into pre-drilled holes and mounting screws are then screwed into the wall anchor which causes the back side of the anchor to expand against the back side of the gypsum or wood paneling, strongly securing it into place. Masonry walls require masonry wall anchors which are inserted into pre-drilled holes using a hammer drill and masonry bit. The mounting screws are then screwed into the masonry wall anchors. The weight of your wall fountain will determine hanging procedures. In gypsum and wood paneling walls, your heavier wall fountains will require mounting directly to studs at strategic locations.
Locate Electrical Outlet for Wall Fountain
The location of the electrical outlet is the third factor to consider when installing your wall fountain. Do you want the wiring to be seen, or do you want it hidden?  Since most electrical outlets are positioned near the floor, and your wall fountain will most likely be placed at eye level, you will be extending the fountain’s electrical cord downward to plug it into the outlet. You can either leave it exposed or hide it with cord covers, which can be painted to match the wall color.  Another alternative is to have an outlet positioned directly behind the wall fountain by a licensed electrician to make the cord totally invisible.
Installation instructions are normally provided with your wall fountain. Some of the larger and or heavier fountains provide a mounting bracket with very detailed instructions on installation.
Wall Fountain Maintenance
The most important maintenance requirement for your wall fountain is to keep the water level at the proper height. This insures that the water pump is properly submerged to prevent premature burnout. Most manufacturers recommend using distilled water to prolong the life of your fountain and prevent hard water buildup, especially on metal or stone. It is a good practice every three to six months to turn your wall fountain off, remove all the water and give it a thorough cleaning. Use a non abrasive cleaner on metal surfaces to avoid scratches. Window cleaner containing ammonia works fine. Some of the larger and more elaborate wall fountains that have natural stone and their own filtration systems have other maintenance practices to perform, but they are quite simple.
Making Your Wall Fountain Decision
The ultimate decision on which wall fountain you decide to purchase is yours. One important factor to consider before purchasing is this; In what room are you considering installing your wall fountain? Is it your bedroom? If so, does the fountain have a lighting accessory that can be turned on and off separately from the pump so you can hear the soothing sound of the flowing water without the light being on? Or do you mind having a night light on while you’re sleeping. Is the pump or the flow of water too loud for you while you’re trying to sleep? Some fountains do have an adjustable pump to control the flow of water. This is just something to keep in mind while deciding. Here’s a great idea that I’ve come across. Some websites that sell wall fountains have customer reviews of some of the products. These are statements from people that have actually purchased these items and are giving there honest opinions about them. Some products are too new to have been reviewed. Read the ones that do have reviews.
